WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?
Soccer is a team sport. But to play well as a team, every player needs to have good individual skills. The problem is that most players/coaches/teams don’t have enough time with the team to really practice individual skills- that time is usually spent on tactics, strategy and learning to play as a team in general, things you can only do with other players around. And therefore… individual skills, although sorely needed, get neglected more often than not.
Hence >SoccerTechDB<, a site dedicated to helping (especially young) players practice individual technical skills, by themselves or with their parents, pretty much anywhere and anytime.
Now, inexperienced, (or just young), players have a harder time understanding drills and “getting into the FLOW” without clear instructions and enough time to practice the said drill. Most drills/videos on Youtube and similar platforms have either too many drills compiled into one video (good luck remembering any), or have only :30 second to 1 minute timers to practice. That is not enough time for most players to understand the drill, nor build speed or do a few sets.
And their parents don’t have any idea where to start to boot.
That’s why all our drills have…
a. CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS:
Each drill includes ~1 minute of detailed instruction in the beginning, going over the exact mechanics of movement, followed by a…
b. ~5-MINUTE CONTINUOUS VIDEO + TWO TIMERS:
One for total time and one for work/rest. Most individual drill videos have ~4-5 minutes of drill time, so you have enough time to practice a specific skill, while being able to also see the drill performed from various angles and speeds, as you are practicing.
WHAT ABOUT BREAKS?- There’s a second timer for :45 WORK and :30 REST for when you don’t feel like making up your intervals, but feel free to “create your own adventure”.
DO I NEED TO GO FULL 5 MINUTES?- Heavens no. Five minutes straight through is enough time to get comfortable for absolute beginners. Choose your own length and just stop when you want:). FYI: Most elite players will do 2-4 reps x (30 secs-1 minute) of the same drill, with short (15-30 sec) breaks between.
So, where do you start? Easy, there’s also…
c. SIMPLE CATEGORIZATION:
From Easy/Beginner to Hard/Pro-Level. Color coded and all. Just pick a few drills or skills that seem right and get going with what interests you the most. Doing something is better than doing nothing, wouldn’t you agree?
HINT: Try one of the many, many [WORKOUTS/SEQUENCES] included with each section.
Simple as that!
GENERAL TIPS:
To get the most out of your time:
- Read the [READ THIS] sections- Those will give you a solid overview what to aim for when practicing a specific aspect of soccer.
- PRECISION MATTERS MORE THAN SPEED!- Especially with [BALL MASTERY] drills. Go slow until you are comfortable, only then increase the speed and start lifting your head.
- Take breaks during the drill if you are going at speed or feel like you need to. For example :45 WORK + :30 REST (that’s included). Or just random :30 breaks when getting tired/sloppy.
- If just starting out and learning the movements, it’s OK to keep practicing the whole timer time and just rest a bit after you are done.
- Use a small tripod to see the screen of your device better and turn it sideways into landscape mode for larger screen, although just having it on the ground works too.
- Drink plenty of water!
That’s pretty much it. Now, get going and get good!
